High Interest books for tweens and teens

I’ve enjoyed the Orca Soundings books for a few years now, and recently read a few more.  These are usually thin paperbacks that move very quickly and are relevant to teens’ lives.

The Darwin Expedition  by Diane Tullson is about two young men who are in a wreck in the wilderness, and encounter grizzlies.  This is a survival story, pure and simple.

Middle Row by Sylvia Olsen is a mystery about a white teen and his Native American girlfriend.  They are searching for a student who has disappeared, but suddenly seems to be linked with the girlfriend’s uncle.  Encountering racism on both sides, they struggle with why finding this student is so important.

Riley Park by Diane Tullson is the story of a young man who is brutally attacked, and left to die.  His friend was also attacked, and does die.  Corbin is suspected of killing the friend himself, and copes with this as well.

All 3 are very fast, light reads.  Any might make good book group reads for reluctant readers.  Kids who are interested in realistic fiction will like these, too.
